Eight hectares at Mowe, worked by hand

Our day starts before light. Cutters go into the rows, the eggs are collected from our layers, and everything is packed at the shed beside the expressway. By the time Lagos kitchens open, the load is moving down the road. We work eight hectares by hand and sell what we grow, not what a cold room has left over.

The farm, as it is

These are our own photographs, taken on the farm at Mowe — the rows, the crates and the layer house, not borrowed pictures from a catalogue. We would rather show you the ordinary working day than a polished one. When you come out to visit, this is what you will walk past.

• Morning rows — The vegetable rows at first light, with cutters moving down the lines between the beds, baskets filling before the heat comes up.
• Crates at the packing shed — Filled crates stacked at the shed beside the expressway, waiting on the same-day run down the road into Lagos.
• The layer house — Where our free-range layers are kept and the eggs are collected daily. This house stays closed to visitors, for the birds' sake.

We are at Km 12 on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway at Mowe, easy to reach whether you are coming out from Lagos or down from Abeokuta. Call or WhatsApp before you travel and we will meet you at the gate. The poultry houses and the packing shed stay closed to visitors — that rule protects the birds and your food.
